Site specific lightwork - Amsterdam UMC 2023



In commission for the Amsterdam UMC Hospital (location AMC) I realised a site-specific light work.
It’s a slowly breathing and changing work for a moment of contemplation for the visitors and patients.

An ever-changing environment. This is the hospital for patients, visitors, and employees. Artist Popel Coumou has responded to this in a clever way. With her light artwork that slowly changes, she shows what space means in a busy location. In the artwork you can see the tranquil version of this hectic environment. A moment of rest on a busy day, or something beautiful to look at while waiting for the lift.
Size: 240 x 330 cm.Amsterdam UMC has a large and well-known art collection. The versatile collection can touch you; comforts or provides distraction.
Special art commissions have been awarded for the redevelopment of the nursing wards in the F and G towers. They not only provide beauty in the building but are also a point of recognition on every floor. In addition to the work of Popel Coumou, the artwork Flowerfields by Elspeth Diederix can be seen at F4 in the patient lounge.
